I first learned about the floradora cocktail when looking for ways to use my homemade raspberry simple syrup, and boy am I happy that I did!
This cocktail is light, bubbly, and so refreshing!!
It has the perfect hint of sweetness that is so well balanced with the tartness of the lime juice and raspberries and the spice from the ginger beer.
What is Raspberry Simple Syrup?
Simple syrup is usually made with equal parts water and sugar. The mixture is heated to help the sugar dissolve, which yields a sweet syrup that can be used to sweeten and flavor just about anything!
This recipe makes a raspberry simple syrup by adding in a cup of fresh or frozen raspberries.
The raspberries pack this syrup with flavor and give it a beautiful red color.
How Do You Make Raspberry Simple Syrup?
I love this recipe because it seriously takes less than 10 minutes to make!
Pour 1 cup of water into a small saucepan. Heat over a medium-high heat until the water begins to boil.
Add in 1 cup of granulated sugar and stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Add in the raspberries and turn the heat down to low and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
Turn off the heat then mash the raspberries using a potato masher.
When I’m making this for drinks, I pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve.
Remove from heat and pour into a medium-sized bowl to cool to room temperature, then cover and set aside.
If you’re making this in advance, it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
How To Make This Floradora Cocktail Recipe
Now that you have some fresh raspberry simple syrup, let’s make a floradora! This floradora recipe is made in a shaker.
In the base of a shaker, muddle 1/4 cup of raspberries using a muddler or a wooden spoon. This will help infuse the drink with an extra burst of raspberry flavor!
Into a shaker measure 2 oz. gin, 1 oz. lime juice, and 1 oz. raspberry simple syrup.
Fill the rest of the way with ice. Secure the top and shake it for about 30 seconds to chill the liquid.
Fill a highball glass with ice. Strain the liquid into the glass.
Top the glass the rest of the way with ginger beer. Garnish with raspberries and enjoy!
What Glass Should I Use for This Floradora Cocktails?
For this drink I like to use a highball glass so I get lots of room for spicy ginger beer!
If you don’t have a highball glass, any tall cup you have should work great.
How Should I Garnish This Drink?
Since this drink if full of raspberry flavor I like to use fresh raspberries to garnish it.
I also use a slice of lime so I can get an extra spritz of tangy citrus whenever I need it!
Raspberry Simple Syrup Ingredients & Substitutions
Like I mentioned above, this recipe is pretty straight forward! However, there are some substitutions and swaps you can make if needed.
- Water – Room temperature tap water works great in this recipe.
- Granulated Sugar – I like using granulated sugar because it’s what I usually have on hand, but you can also use extra fine sugar or caster sugar.
- Raspberries – You can use fresh or frozen raspberries in this recipe. If you use frozen, I recommend simmering the mixture a couple extra minutes!
Floradora Ingredients & Substitutions
Here are some substitutions and swaps you can make if needed in this cocktail recipe.
- Raspberries – I love muddling raspberries in the shaker before building this drink but this is totally optional!
- Gin – The Floradora is similar to a Tom Collins, so gin is ideal! But feel free to substitute vodka or tequila to put a new twist on it.
- Lime Juice – Fresh lime is the key to bringing out the fresh fruity flavor of the drink! Fresh is always best but bottled is a great substitute.
- Raspberry Simple Syrup – I love using my recipe to make this simple syrup to create the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
